Open Questions in Galactic Chemical Evolution
Heidelberg, May 8—9, 2012.
We would like to bring together observers, astrophysical modelers, nuclear theorists and experimentalists to discuss open problems and challenges for a better understanding of the chemical enrichment history of the galaxy.
The main goals of the workshop are:
- identification of crucial questions in observation, theory, astrophysics and experiments for making progress on understanding the enrichment history;
- identification of potential topics of collaboration;
- building bridges between the different communities;
- fostering novel modeling approaches for the chemogalactic history.
The following speakers have accepted to present invited review talks:
- Dieter Breitschwerdt (TU Berlin): Mixing processes in the ISM
- Marcus Brueggen (Jacobs U Bremen): Turbulent processes in galaxies
- Cristina Chiappini (AIP): Unsolved problems in Galactic chemical evolution
- Norbert Christlieb (U Heidelberg): Observations of metal poor stars
- Hans-Thomas Janka (MPA Garching): 3D supernova simulations
- Hans-Guenter Ludwig (U Heidelberg): Uncertainties and challenges in stellar abundance analyses
- Ralf Klessen (U Heidelberg): Feedback between ISM properties and star formation
- Gabriel Martinez-Pinedo (TU Darmstadt): Unsolved problems in Explosive Nucleosynthesis
A few slots for contributed talks are available.
- There will be a welcome reception at the IWH on Monday evening, starting at 19:00.
- The program of the workshop will start on 8 May at 9:00, and end on 9 May at 15:00.
- If the number of participants will be less than 30, we can most likely provide you with a free welcome reception, coffee breaks, lunches, and a dinner on Tuesday evening. If there will be more participants, we might have to ask you for a small contribution towards the catering costs.
- There will be no conference proceedings.
